Martin's Farmstand:  Snap peas

The peas are ready! There is a bumper crop of both snap peas (edible pod) and regular shell peas to pick in the next few days. Swiss chard, lettuce, dillweed cilantro and parsley are prime.
The early red raspberries are close to peak season. This is about 7-10 days earlier than the average year. Upick on the raspberries is open this week during strawberry u-pick times. Next week u-pick for both raspberries and strawberries (gleaning status) will be open during normal stand hours ( 10 AM-6 PM Tuesday- Saturday) We will have picked berries on the stand on an intermittent basis as labor and supply in the field allows. Black cap raspberries should be ready in about a week or 10 days. The fruit set on the black raspberies was very heavy and we have lots of rain so I see potential to have more black raspberries than we have ever had.
Early green cabbage, yellow squash, zucchini, broccoli and the first of the pickler cukes are at the stand. In a week or so cucumbers and pickles will become abundant and more economical in price. We have started pulling fresh garlic. This is the beginning to summer and lots of bounty. Life moves on quickly. My advice is to eat lots of these good fresh fruits and vegetables as each comes in its season. and to show love to everyone you can as often as you can. The u-cut flower patches are growing nicely. Some of the cosmos have started blooming already. With in a week or two there will be lots of flowers to cut. Our flowers are available free for non commercial purposes again this year. Cut some to make your table beautiful and if you are so inclined also cut some for someone else such as an older shut in person or just to use as an excuse to stop in to someone that you judge could use your friendly face in their lives. If you are doing something with the flowers that makes you money then we would appreciate a donation. Daniel

Martin's Farmstand:  Strawberry Festival and U-Pick Patch update

The Strawberry Festival will run Saturday, June 29th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

There will be food, games, tractor rides and fun all around!

If you have signed up to be a _volunteer _or to enter a creation into the “Jam-Off” there has been an email sent out with updated/detailed information last night! If you did not receive and email and you think you should have please let Desiree know via call/text/email. (315) 869-3910 – GreenwoodAcresFarmPotsdam@gmail.com

For the Jam-Off:

We will be putting a bite-sized sample of each Strawberry creation into a labeled small container and placed on a tray with the other entries. The plan is to allow the first 50 people here to “vote” for their favorite by ordering what they like most, second most, and so on. We will tally the votes and the person with the highest ranking recipe will receive a gift card for Martin’s Farmstand totaling $100.

Creations should be delivered to Martin’s Farmstand by Friday 6/28 at 11am. This will give us time to prepare them for voters- they will be kept in the cooler overnight.

U-Pick Strawberries

There will be u-pick this afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm or until all berries are picked. The rain has overripened some of the berries so pickers may have to work a bit harder as we near the end of peak season. Each vine may have three perfect berries for two that are over-ripened and that means that it may take a little longer to fill a quart than it did a week about but the berries are still pleantiful and delicious. And we look forward to seeing you!

-Desiree

Old99Farm Market:  Week of June 24th

Greetings,

I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and happy.

We’re in the second week of 11 of Summer veggie CSA Season, you can sign up at any time at a pro-rated cost or order one offs as well as a la carte.

Our black currants are ripening nicely and are open for pick your own, kindly reach out to make an appointment if you are interested in picking them.

We’re still harvesting Garlic Scapes and we’ve got lots if you want them, they’re great for making pesto and using as a garlic clove alternative with a fresh and sharp flavour that’s in season. If you’re looking for more traditional garlic we have frozen minced garlic, and frozen garlic confit, as well as ground freeze dried garlic scape powder.

We had our first ripe tomato yesterday, so expect to have enough to add to the CSA and store in the next couple of weeks.

We have also re-stocked our ground beef, get it while it lasts, in time for summer BBQ season.

We’re holding interviews for our summer student position at the farm, if you know anyone under 30 that’s interested and looking for experience in organic sustainable farming please put them in touch with us.

Martin's Farmstand:  U-pick strawberries and raspberries this evening

We will be opening the strawberry and early red raspberry patches this evening (Monday June 24, 2024) from 5 till 8 pm. This is just after the peak of strawberry season. There is a large amount of berries out there that need picked this evening. If you want strawberries this year sooner is better than later as each picking from now on out will be smaller. After today the next picking time will be Wednesday starting at 2 pm and Saturday starting at 7 am. This is the last week of organized strawberry picking. Half price gleaning status will start this year on Tuesday July 2nd. There are lots of red raspberries ripe out in the patch. This seems to be about a week early from normal. The raspberries are available for u-pick on a first come basis this week anytime we are picking strawberries. Black raspberries are not ready yet. All the raspberries and blackcaps are really loaded. I will post more details when the black raspberries are ripe. Dad’s blueberries are also really loaded and he will be open for u-pick when they ready in a few weeks. More details to follow. Daniel
